A detailer at the dealership I deliver to told me my 'good enough' panel gaps were making my work look cheap.
I started using a set of feeler gauges to check every gap before final assembly, and now my boss says the cars look like they came from the factory.

Read a car magazine interview once where a designer said panel gaps are the first thing your eyes check, even if your brain doesn't know it. That tiny space is where the whole feeling of quality lives or dies. Your story totally proves that point, moving from something looking handmade to looking precision-made. It's all in the numbers, not just the eye.

It's crazy how often the difference between good and great is just that one extra, measurable step. Most people never even see the gap.
