Chose heat vs. drill for a seized bolt, the car had other ideas

Had a 2012 Civic in the shop last Tuesday, lower control arm bolt rusted solid. I stood there weighing the $40 induction heater against my trusty drill and a box of easy-outs. Picked the heater because I figured less chance of snapping the bolt inside the knuckle. Got it glowing red, hit it with penetrating oil, and the bolt came out like it was butter. Then the bracket itself cracked from the pressure, so I ended up ordering a whole new arm anyway. Anyone else ever win the battle and lose the wallet on these jobs?
