Had to decide between a full quarter panel replacement or a section on a 2018 F-150 last Tuesday

The damage was right at the wheel arch, about 8 inches long. I went with the section to save the customer a grand and keep more factory metal. It came out clean, but I'm curious if anyone else has a rule of thumb for when they absolutely won't section a panel.

Sectioning's fine but never cut through a body line.

What about a door skin though, where the body line runs through it?

That "never cut through a body line" rule is a good one.

Yeah, that rule about body lines is solid. I had to section a door skin once and just worked up to the line from the back side, then finished it from the front. Came out clean.
