Hand sanding vs DA for filler work, when did you make the switch?

I learned bodywork back in 2003 at a shop in Fresno where the old timer swore by hand sanding filler with a long board. He'd say 'you can feel the high spots better than any tool' and honestly he was right, but it took me twice as long per panel. About 4 years ago I finally caved and bought a 6 inch DA with a contour pad for filler work, and my cycle time on a bumper repair went from 3 hours down to about 1.5. I still block sand the final 2 passes by hand on anything that needs a perfect reflection, like a classic car door. Is that just me being stuck in the past, or do you guys go full tool for everything now?
