Honestly never had luck with that. A rag can slip and scratch the paint way worse than just being careful with your tools. Microfiber is the only thing I trust for that.

Watching you guys debate rags versus microfiber like it's a peace treaty. My dad just uses whatever t-shirt he spilled coffee on that morning. Works every time.

Folded towel works great to protect the paint too. I keep a couple old ones in the garage just for that.
