My uncle swore by using a heat gun on old decals, and I should have listened

He told me, 'Just warm it up slow and they'll peel right off, no goo.' I was working on a '92 Chevy truck with sun-baked pinstripes and figured a razor blade was faster. Spent the next 45 minutes scraping off tiny bits of adhesive that gummed up everything. Ended up using the heat gun anyway, plus a whole bottle of adhesive remover. Anyone have a better method for really baked-on vinyl?

Heat guns can still leave a bit of residue sometimes.

Ugh, tell me about it! What's the trick to getting it all off? I used one on some old stickers and it left this gross, sticky film that was almost worse than the sticker itself. I ended up scrubbing for ages with goo gone.

A buddy of mine swore by using a regular hair dryer and a plastic scraper (like an old gift card) to peel stickers off his car bumper. He said if you heat it up slowly and peel from the corner, the glue comes off in one long strip instead of that gooey mess. It still left a tiny bit of residue for him, but a quick wipe with rubbing alcohol took care of it without all the scrubbing.
