Noticed a big difference in how I block sand after switching to hard blocks

I used to just use soft pads on everything for years, but after a job on a 2018 Civic with weird body lines last month, I tried a long hard block on the panels. The flatness is way better and I'm not chasing low spots as much. Has anyone else found certain panels just need a hard block no matter what?

My buddy tried soft pads on his F-150 and said it looked like a wavy potato chip.

Did he end up leaving them on or did he swap back right away? Seems like a bad look for something that's supposed to be an upgrade.
