PSA: A painter at the Tacoma shop said my primer was too thick for a full respray.
He pointed out my mix was off, saying 'that's gonna orange peel before you even lay color.' I switched to a 4:1:1 ratio with a slower reducer and the next job came out smooth. Anyone else get called out on a basic step they thought they had down?

Had that exact talk about primer being too heavy. Adding a splash more reducer than the can says made all the difference for me. It just flows out so much better.

Man, been there. I mixed a batch too hot once trying to rush a hood, and it looked like sandpaper when it flashed off. Had to sand the whole thing back. That slow reducer is a lifesaver for a full panel, gives it time to lay flat.

My buddy learned that lesson with clear coat on a trunk lid. He used fast activator in high humidity and got a nasty orange peel finish. Sometimes the extra minute for the right mix saves an hour of sanding later.
