PSA: Let a dent sit in the sun for 30 minutes before you try to pop it out
I tried to pull a hail dent on a hood at 50 degrees and it cracked the paint, but after letting the car bake for half an hour in the July heat in Phoenix, the same dent popped right out smooth as glass - has anyone else switched to warming panels first for tricky dents?

My dad tried that sun trick on a Chevy in Tucson and the hood got too hot to touch.

Hard disagree here. I've tried the sun method on a couple of dents and it made things worse both times. The metal expands unevenly and the paint gets all soft and gummy, so when I tried to pop a dent on a door panel after an hour in 90 degree heat, the paint just wrinkled up like old skin. Cold method works better for me every time - I park in the shade, wait for things to cool down, then use a little dry ice on the dent to shock the metal back. That heat just makes the whole panel too floppy.
