Rant: I used a heat gun on a plastic bumper for way too long and it got weird
I was trying to soften a dent on a 2018 Civic's rear bumper, and after about 90 seconds with the heat gun on a medium setting, the plastic started to get this weird, almost waxy texture instead of just becoming pliable. I ended up having to sand and repaint the whole section, which added like two hours to the job. Has anyone else had a plastic repair go sideways from too much heat, and what's your sweet spot for timing?

Ugh, I did that once... melted a little spot into a shiny bubble. I keep it under a minute now and keep the gun moving.

Did you have the heat gun set on high or low when that happened? I made the same mistake early on and realized the high setting is basically a flamethrower in disguise. Distance matters too, I keep mine about 6 inches away now and never stay still for more than 10 seconds. The bubble is a dead giveaway you got too close or stayed too long, takes forever to fix if you even can. What project were you working on when it happened?

Damn, 90 seconds on one spot is a long time. What kind of heat gun were you using, and were you holding it super close? I've found the distance matters just as much as the time, some guns pump out way more heat than others.
