Spent 4 hours trying to get a perfect match on a 2021 Honda Civic's pearl white
The tri-coat just would not lay right without mottling, even after adjusting the gun pressure and reducer. I finally got it by adding an extra 15 minutes of flash time between the midcoat and clear. What's the longest a simple color match has ever taken you?

That extra 15 minutes of flash time is such a classic fix. It reminds me how the smallest delay can change everything, like waiting an extra minute for glue to get tacky before pressing wood together. I see it when cooking too, letting a sauce rest for five more minutes so it thickens up right. What other jobs have you found where a tiny bit more patience solves a big problem?

My buddy does tile work, and he told me about this one backsplash job. The homeowner was breathing down his neck to finish, rushing him to grout right after setting the tiles. He knew it needed another hour to really set up, but he gave in. Next day, half the tiles were loose because the thin-set didn't get a full cure. Had to redo the whole thing. That extra hour of waiting would have saved him a full day's work and a ton of money.

Honestly, sometimes you just have to get the job done and move on. The homeowner needed their kitchen back, and a few loose tiles are a quick fix compared to holding up their whole life. @charlie_schmidt talks about waiting, but time is money for both the worker and the client. If the tiles mostly held, you could just regrout the bad spots later. Rushing keeps costs down and makes the client happy now, which is what really matters in the end.
