That cheap filler spreader changed my whole smoothing game

I grabbed a $6 plastic spreader from the parts store on a whim after hating on them for years, but using it on a rusty quarter panel last Tuesday showed me how much easier it is to lay thin coats without overworking the mud, so has anyone else ditched their metal blades for these?

Man, I was the same way for years, swore by my old flex blade and thought the plastic ones were just cheap junk. But once I got one of those flexible spreaders, I realized it's way easier to keep a consistent thin layer without digging into the metal, especially on stuff like a quarter panel. The trick is to use less downward pressure and let the plastic bend a bit, and you'll get a smoother finish with way less sanding afterwards. Now I only grab my metal one for really rough filler work and use the plastic for everything else.
