The $400 spray gun I said I'd never buy is now my daily driver
Three years ago I swore up and down that HVLP guns were a waste of money for small shop guys like me. I watched my buddy drop $400 on one at a job in Des Moines and told him he was crazy. Last month I finally caved after fighting a cheap siphon gun on a pearl white tri-coat for eight hours. The runs were everywhere and I burned through double the clear trying to fix it. That same buddy let me borrow his HVLP on a Saturday bumper job and I honestly couldn't believe the difference. Now I'm shopping for my own and looking back, I wasted way more in materials than the gun costs. Anyone else get humbled like this after swearing off expensive tools?

Man, eight hours on a tri-coat with a siphon gun sounds like actual torture lol. That pearl white would have me pulling my hair out by hour two, let alone burning double the clear on top of it. The math on wasted materials is the part that stings the most, people never add that up when they scoff at the price tag. Glad you finally saw the light, sometimes the expensive tool pays for itself in saved sanity and paint.
