Wasted $300 on a cheap paint gun from a discount tool website

I bought a knockoff HVLP gun online because it was half the price of a Devilbiss and I figured spray paint is spray paint you know? After three jobs where the finish came out orange-peel city I had to sand and respray everything plus buy a real gun from the local auto paint store. Has anyone else burned cash on a budget gun that just could not lay down a smooth coat?

Bought a similar cheap gun from an online deal and yeah, it was a total waste. Ended up with splatters and runs that took forever to fix. What finally worked for me was going to a local shop and getting a mid-range brand they recommended. The guy there showed me how to adjust the air pressure and fluid knob right, which the cheap one didn't even have proper controls for. Plus the cheap one's nozzle was rough inside, no wonder the paint came out chunky. Sometimes you just have to pay for the real deal to get clean results.

@sandragonzalez my cheap gun worked fine after I threw a new nozzle on it for twenty bucks.
