A customer's truck in Boise tried to eat my socket wrench

I was doing a simple brake job on a 2008 F-150 last Thursday, and the caliper bolt was stuck. I put my 18mm deep socket on it with a breaker bar, and the whole socket just... vanished into the frame rail. It fell through a rust hole I couldn't see and got wedged somewhere near the fuel tank. Spent over an hour fishing for it with a magnet on a stick. Anyone ever have a truck just swallow a tool like that?

Come on man... it's just a lost socket. Happens all the time. I've dropped way more than that into an engine bay and just let it rattle around until it fell out. An hour with a magnet is a bit much, just go buy a new one. It's not like the truck actually ate it.

Yeah, but what if it doesn't fall out? That socket could end up somewhere real bad, like jammed in a belt or something. Then you're looking at way more than an hour and a new socket. A little time with a magnet now saves a huge headache later, you know?

A magnet on a stick has saved me more times than I can count for exactly this reason.
