Hot take: Snap-on sockets aren't worth the hype anymore

Bought a Snap-on set 3 years ago for $400 at a shop in Dallas. Three sockets cracked on me within 6 months. My $40 Pittsburgh set from Harbor Freight has held up better for daily use. Anyone else think the brand premium is just marketing now?

Started noticing this same thing with a lot of "premium" brands lately. Tools, clothes, even my truck parts. They slap a fancy name on it, jack up the price, and people still line up because of the rep from 20 years ago. But the actual quality? Feels like they cut corners to keep profits high while the cheaper brands caught up in materials and design. It's like buying a designer t-shirt that falls apart after three washes while the one from Target lasts forever. Snap-on still has some specialty stuff that's worth it, but for general sockets and wrenches? You're paying for the truck to roll up to the shop and the warranty hype, not the tool itself anymore.

Yeah the t-shirt comparison is spot on, and this is coming from a guy who still has a ten year old walmart shirt in his rotation that looks fine but somehow ruined a "premium" hoodie after two washes. I guess at this point @joseph_murray8 maybe I'm just getting old and cynical but I remember when the Snap-on truck was like the promised land and now I kinda just shrug when it rolls up. The warranty thing still has some value if you use tools every single day, but for the average person wrenching on their own stuff idk if it justifies the price anymore.
