My shop vac ate a 10mm socket and I still can't find it
Last Tuesday I was swapping out an alternator on a 2012 Civic and dropped my favorite 10mm deep socket right into the shop vac while it was running. I heard that awful rattle for half a second and then silence, now I gotta dump out a full bag of drywall dust just to see if it's in there. Has anyone else lost a tool to a vacuum and actually found it, or should I just buy another set?

Wonder if you're making a mountain out of a molehill here. Chances are that socket either got chewed up pretty good or it's wedged somewhere in the hose or the intake. Dumping out a full bag of that drywall dust just to find a socket you can get for a few bucks at the hardware store seems like a whole lot of trouble over nothing. I've lost tools before, sure, but after a certain point you just write it off and move on. Unless that particular socket had some real sentimental value, I'd say cut your losses and buy a new one.
