Pro tip: That cheap code reader I bought on Amazon actually saved my butt
I picked up a $30 Bluetooth OBD2 scanner from some random brand last month just to clear a check engine light on my 2012 F-150. Turned out it caught a bad coil pack misfire that I would have totally missed without it - the truck was running fine but the data showed cylinder 3 dropping out at idle. Has anyone else had a cheap tool surprise them or am I just lucky this one time?

Wait, you're saying a $30 Amazon scanner actually diagnosed a specific cylinder misfire? That's wild, I figured those things were mostly just for clearing codes and nothing else.

That cheap scanner saved me the same headache on my F-150, caught a coil pack misfire I never felt driving.
