PSA: I used to laugh at parts cannons, then a rear caliper seized on a 2014 Focus and I ate a $340 tow
Used to think pull-a-part hunting was for cheapskates until that Tuesday when a customer's caliper locked up, and now I keep a $60 junkyard spare on the shelf and want to know if anyone else stocks used brake parts or if that's just asking for trouble?
Caliper seizing is rare enough that keeping used brake parts on the shelf sounds like hoarding to me. A $60 spare sitting for two years just to dodge one tow?
Does it really matter if it sits there for two years if the one time you need it you avoid a tow and a shop bill? You keep a jack and jumper cables for the same reason, right? What makes a caliper so different from those?
