Question about using a $40 digital multimeter versus a $10 analog one on a 2012 Ford Focus
I was chasing a parasitic drain on a customer's car last week. Started with my old analog meter from trade school. The needle bounced so much I couldn't get a stable reading, wasted over an hour. Switched to my newer digital meter, set it to the 10A DC setting, and had a solid 0.23 amp draw in under five minutes. Found a bad module keeping the network awake. The auto-ranging and clear display on the digital one made all the difference for this kind of precise work. For basic voltage checks, the analog is fine, but for modern electrical diagnosis, I'm sticking with digital. What's your go-to meter for electrical gremlins?

Yeah, @shane244 gets it. That shaky needle is a real headache. Digital just makes the job so much simpler.

Man that "needle bounced so much" line hits home. I had the exact same fight with an old analog meter on a Honda Civic. Trying to watch that thing jitter while your back aches under the dash is the worst. Swapping to a digital readout feels like putting on glasses, suddenly everything is just clear. It turns a guessing game into a real diagnosis.
