Remembering that Tuesday in '99 with the three carburetors
I was working at a small shop in Springfield back then, and this old guy brought in his '72 Chevy pickup that wouldn't idle right. He had three different quadrajets in the bed, all from junkyards, and wanted me to rebuild the best one. The whole day turned into this puzzle, matching parts from each, soaking everything in cleaner, and hand-setting the floats. No computer, no scan tool, just a vacuum gauge and a lot of patience. When it finally fired up and held a steady 20 inches of vacuum, the look on his face was pure relief. We don't see that kind of work much anymore. What's the most satisfying old-school fix you've pulled off recently?

Man, that's a cool story. My most satisfying fix lately was just getting my lawnmower to start on the first pull, which feels like a miracle. I mean, I'm no carburetor wizard.

Ever get that same rush fixing a coffee maker?

That first pull start is the best feeling, like you just won a tiny championship. I spent a whole Saturday last month cleaning the carb on my mower, watching like five different YouTube videos. When it finally roared to life, I actually yelled "yes!" in my garage, lol. It's crazy how such a small win can make you feel like a total genius for the rest of the day.
