Serious question, did shops really diagnose faster before scan tools took over?
I learned on a 1994 Civic with a vacuum gauge and a timing light, and last week a 2019 Silverado sat in my bay for 3 days chasing a misfire a $30 spark tester would have found in 20 minutes. Feels like we traded listening to the engine for staring at live data, and I catch myself missing the old way more than I should. Anyone else keep a vacuum gauge on the bench just for the heck of it?
