Warning: saw a oil return line go from fine to sludge in 8 months
Was helping a buddy swap a motor on his 94 F-150 last weekend and the return line was almost completely blocked with black gunk. He runs Rotella T5 and changes it every 5k on the dot. Anyone else notice this with certain diesel oils?

Whoa, I used to think diesel oils were like magic and could handle anything. But seeing that sludge buildup makes me rethink running them in my gas truck.

Man, I never thought about it that way... but the real issue is that diesel oils have way more detergents than gas engines can handle, so they just leave all that leftover junk floating around instead of burning it off. Plus, modern gas engines run at higher temps and have tighter tolerances than old rigs, so that sludge can gum up variable valve timing and stuff you don't even think about. It's like putting racing fuel in a lawnmower... sure it runs for a bit, but the long term damage is sneaky.
