Bought a $150 'universal' wire crimper that mangled every pin on a 38999 connector job.

Ever wonder if those universal tools are just cheap junk with a fancy name? I had the same thing happen with a crimper that claimed to work on everything from automotive terminals to network cables. It just crushed the insulation on some Deutsch pins without actually crimping the metal. Ended up buying the specific $40 tool for that connector family and it worked perfectly the first time. Sometimes you just can't skip buying the right tool for the job.

My garage is basically a museum of universal tool failures at this point. Tbh that expensive crimper probably works great as a paperweight now. Ngl, I've learned the hard way that "works on everything" usually means "doesn't work right on anything." It's a special kind of frustration when the cheap, specific tool saves the day after the fancy one ruins your parts.
