Debate: Did that $350 Fluke meter save me or was it just a flex?

I dropped $350 on a Fluke 87V last month after my old Klein started giving wonky readings on a 737 pitot-static test. It nailed the diagnosis in 10 minutes... but I could have borrowed a buddy's meter for free. Now I'm wondering if I wasted the cash or if having my own reliable tool is worth it for the peace of mind. What do you guys think - are top dollar meters a must or just bragging rights?

My neighbor Bob spent $600 on a Snap-On scan tool for his 2007 F-150 and then left it in the driveway overnight. Somebody ran over it with a lawnmower. I mean a whole riding mower, just pulverized the screen. Bob's still using a borrowed meter a year later because he's too scared to buy another nice one. So yeah, peace of mind is great, but only if you can keep the thing safe from your own yard.

Poor Bob, that is a ROUGH way to learn a lesson about tool security. You can't even be mad at the mower guy because who thinks to check for a scan tool in the driveway at night. My heart genuinely goes out to him though, it takes a special kind of bad luck to get your expensive gear blended into the lawn.
