Heard a pilot at the FBO in Daytona talking about a weird EFIS flicker during climbout

He said it only happened above 8,000 feet on a hot day and cleared up after leveling off. I was just grabbing coffee, but it got me thinking about temperature and pressure effects on older display units. Has anyone else run into an intermittent G1000 issue that seemed altitude-related?

Oh man, that's a classic one. I read a service bulletin about that exact thing a while back. Some of the older G1000 units have a cooling fan that can get lazy, especially when the air is thin and hot. The system starts to overheat just a bit during the high power climb, then it chills out once you level off and the airflow improves. It's not just you, it's a known weak spot. That pilot should definitely get those fans checked.

Nah, that service bulletin gets quoted too much. Most of the time it's just a bad ground connection or a software hiccup, not the actual fan. People jump straight to the fan fix without checking the simple stuff first.

Daytona in the summer is basically a pre-heat oven for avionics. Classic fan failure mode, but of course the internet mechanics skip the voltmeter and go straight to the parts cannon. Bet you a cold beer the ground strap under the panel is just loose and covered in that Florida corrosion. Seen it a dozen times.
