I finally stopped trusting my DMM leads after a $900 mistake

Last month I was chasing a intermittent fault on a King radio in a Cessna 172. My meter kept showing open circuit on a harness pin, so I pulled the whole panel and replaced a wiring bundle. Turned out the leads had a broken strand inside the silicone sleeve, only showed up when I flexed them certain ways. That job cost the customer 900 bucks in labor and parts for nothing. Now I test my leads by wiggling them against a known short before I trust any reading. Has anyone else had a set of fluke leads lie to them like that?
