Showerthought: a ramp guy at DFW taught me more about connector pins in 10 minutes than a whole class did
Was doing a quick turn on a 737 at DFW last spring and griped about a stubborn cannon plug to the ramp lead, Marcus. He grabbed my pick, showed me to walk the pin out from the back side first instead of fighting the front, and it popped loose in like 30 seconds. Nobody in my 6 week course ever mentioned that trick. Anybody else got a shortcut like that they picked up from someone outside the avionics bay?
Not trying to be a jerk here but walking the pin out from the back side is standard stuff, it's in the AMM for most cannon plugs. The real issue is that a 6 week crash course skips a lot of the hands on tricks because they're too busy teaching you to pass the written. Marcus probably learned it from an old head who learned it from a tech school that actually spent time in the shop instead of the classroom. The trades have always been this way, the guy doing the job every day knows stuff the instructor read out of a book. Doesn't make the class useless, just means the two things cover different ground.
