Showerthought: I used to think those cheap thermal cameras were useless for our work

I saw a guy at the hangar in Mobile using a $300 one from a hardware store to spot a hot connector on a comms panel. He found a bad crimp in about two minutes that was causing intermittent static. I was totally wrong, it's a solid first-look tool before you break out the big guns. What other budget tools have you guys found that actually work for troubleshooting?

Honestly how much time are we talking about? Those things are cool but they feel like a gadget you use twice and forget in a drawer. Unless you're doing inspections daily, it seems like overkill for most people.
