Update: A Cessna 172's comm radio went completely dead on me during a pre-flight check last Thursday.

The pilot was waiting and I found a blown 5-amp fuse in the avionics bay, but replacing it just made it pop again instantly. I had to trace a short in the co-pilot's headset jack wiring, which took about two hours. Has anyone else had a simple fuse replacement turn into a major wiring hunt on a small plane like that?

Oh man, that's the worst... chasing a short in those old headset jacks. I always keep a multimeter in my flight bag now because of something just like that. Had a similar thing happen with a nav light circuit, turned out the wire insulation had worn through where it rubbed against a seat frame. It's never just the fuse, is it? Those little gremlins can take forever to find.

Ever had a short hide in the rudder pedal wiring?
