A ranger in Yosemite asked where my paper map was and I pulled out my phone
I pulled up a route I downloaded off some forum and he just laughed and said nobody carries maps on the JMT anymore, which got me thinking about how I planned my first trip 12 years ago with a gas station atlas and a highlighter, so now I keep wondering if I'm actually learning the terrain or just following a little blue dot, and I want to know if anyone here still marks up a real map before a trip or if that's just me being old fashioned.
