Bringing a friend saved my backpacking trip
Honestly, everyone talks about the peace of solo hikes. Ngl, being alone on a remote route got to me after a while. Having a pal there kept my spirits high.

Hey, didn't the original post just say being alone got to them? They might have been with their friend the whole time and just meant the isolation got rough. Could be reading it wrong though.

Wait you tried a remote route alone first? That's wild. I would've freaked out hearing every little noise at night. One time my tent zipper got stuck and I nearly lost it, can't imagine dealing with that without someone to laugh it off with. Honestly props for even trying it solo, that takes guts I don't have.

Remember that article about the guy who solo hiked the Pacific Crest Trail? He talked about how the silence at first made every crackle in the woods sound like a bear. After a few nights, his brain just tuned out the normal sounds and only woke him for real dangers. Said it was like his fear switched off once he got used to being alone. Makes you wonder if we're all just scared of the unknown, not the actual risks. Have you ever had a moment where your fear just clicked off like that?
