I used to plan my trips around hitting the most miles possible
It took a guy I met on the Rae Lakes Loop pointing out that I was just staring at my feet to realize I was missing the point. Now I build in a zero day at a good lake, and the trip is about the place, not the pace. Anyone else shift from being a mileage junkie to something slower?

Yeah, that hit home for me too. I was so focused on beating my last time or hitting some number that I'd get home and realize I didn't really see anything. Now I'll pick a good spot and just sit for an hour, watch the light change on the rocks. It makes the whole trip feel different, like you actually got to know the place a little. What was the first trip where you tried slowing down?

That "watch the light change" thing you said is exactly it.

What finally made you stop and just sit for a while? I had to force myself to leave my watch in the car to really break the habit.
