I used to think the John Muir Trail was the only real backpacking route in the Sierras until a ranger in Bishop told me I was missing the point.

My buddy skipped the JMT and spent a week in the Minarets, said it was the best trip of his life.

How can you even compare the two, @elizabeth220? The Minarets are just so much more wild and quiet than the main trail. Your buddy made a solid choice for sure.
