Lost the trail marker on the Appalachian Trail near Roan Mountain

I was hiking the AT in Tennessee last October and hit a fog bank around 4pm. The white blazes just disappeared on a rocky section and I spent 20 minutes circling before I realized I'd walked past a cairn someone built. I backtracked and found the actual marker hidden behind a fallen branch. Has anyone else had trouble with trail markers getting covered up by debris in the fall?

Yeah that "hidden behind a fallen branch" part got me. It's like life does that same thing all the time, you know? You're on a clear path and then something random covers up the next step. Fog banks are basically nature's way of reminding you that you don't see the whole picture ever. Fall debris is just the universe's version of throwing clutter at your plans. I've noticed it's always the small stuff that trips you up, not the big obvious obstacles.
