My buddy swore by the 'dry creek' shortcut on the Lost Coast Trail
He told me to cut inland at the 12 mile mark to save two hours. I tried it last month and ended up in a thicket of poison oak with zero trail markers. Took me an extra three hours to bushwhack back to the beach. Anyone know a legit, safe shortcut for that section, or is it just a bad idea?

Listen, that dry creek thing is a total trap, and @kim_hart7's cousin found another one. The real trail is slow but it's the only safe bet.

Remember that time my friend tried a shortcut like that? He ended up on a loose scree slope that just kept going, and his pack strap snapped when he grabbed a bush to stop sliding. Took him forever to backtrack in the dark. Miles992 is totally right about sticking to the real trail, even if it feels slow.
