Took me 6 hours to find out my water filter was clogged with silt near Mount Whitney, not broken

The "not broken" part got me because I used to always assume gear failure meant something snapped or wore out. Turns out half the time it's just crap in the line you can't see. Now I check the filter first before I start shopping for replacements.
