Vent: A ranger in Yosemite told me my planned route was 'a classic rookie mistake'
I had this whole 5 day loop mapped out from Tuolumne Meadows, trying to hit three high passes. The ranger at the wilderness center looked at my permit and said, 'You're going to be cooked by day two, that's a 4,000 foot climb in under 10 miles.' I mean, he was right, I was totally overestimating my daily mileage with the elevation. I cut it back to two passes and added a zero day by a lake. Has anyone else had a ranger totally save their trip from being miserable?

Oh man, "cooked by day two" is such a perfect way to put it. That's the kind of real talk you need from someone who's seen it all. Good on you for listening and adjusting, that zero day by the lake sounds way better than being a wreck on the trail. Those rangers have saved more trips than we'll ever know.
