Finally caved and bought a $400 patio umbrella

Thought it was too much, but it's the only thing that lets us eat outside in the afternoon sun. Anyone have a good way to keep the base from tipping in the wind?

Is a patio umbrella really that big of a deal? I just use a regular one and move my chair.

It's funny how we all have those little workarounds, @jenniferc71. I see it with all sorts of stuff, people making do instead of getting the "right" tool. If moving the chair works for you, that's the real answer.

Wait, you just use a regular rain umbrella for shade outside? That sounds like a huge pain to hold for a whole meal. I'd be so worried about a gust of wind just taking it and launching it across the yard like a weird plastic kite.
