Finally got my compost pile right after two different setups

I tried a basic open pile for about six months and it just sat there wet and gross. Switched to a three bin system I built from old pallets and it's a total game changer. The key was having one bin for new stuff, one for cooking, and one for finished compost to actually use. After just three weeks in the new bins, the middle section was already steaming hot. Now I'm getting dark, crumbly compost in under two months. Anyone else find that structure made all the difference for their compost?

My first compost pile was just a sad, soggy heap behind the shed for a year. I think the worms were avoiding it out of pity. Your three bin method sounds like the way to go.
