Grass clippings: bag 'em or leave 'em on the lawn?

I've been leaving my clippings on for years thinking it's free fertilizer, but my neighbor swears bagging prevents thatch and looks way cleaner. What did you pick and how did your lawn turn out?

Have you noticed more bugs or mushrooms pop up since you started leaving clippings on your lawn?

Three summers of leaving clippings on now and no bugs for me, @brooke475, so solidarity on that worry.
