Hit 50 different bird species in my backyard this year and I'm kind of shocked

I started keeping a list back in March just to see what showed up at my feeder in Phoenix. Last week I spotted a hooded oriole and that put me over 50 species which felt crazy for a standard suburban yard. Anybody else track this stuff and find way more variety than they expected?

Started off thinking 50 was just some hardcore bird people flexing but now I'm sitting here realizing I've probably got way more species than I ever knew flying through my yard. It's wild how paying a little attention totally changes what you see.

...and then I started leaving corn out for the quail and now I've got a whole flock that won't leave me alone, they just stand by the door looking at me through the glass. It's kind of funny how one little change attracts a whole different crowd of birds you never even noticed before. Makes you wonder what else is flying over your head that you're just missing because you're not looking up at the right time.

@sethmartinez are you checking the empty spot in that oak tree in your front yard now?
