Just realized my neighbor's cheap tip fixed my patio drainage for free
My buddy Carl who lives two houses down noticed I was fighting puddles on my new concrete patio last spring. He said just drill a few small holes near the low spots and fill them with gravel, no fancy french drain needed. I thought he was full of it, but I was sick of standing water after every rainstorm. After three days of hesitation I finally grabbed my hammer drill and tried it on the worst spot near the grill. It actually worked perfect the next time it rained, water just disappeared into the holes like magic. The best part is it cost me exactly zero dollars since I had gravel left over from a flower bed project. Has anyone else tried these simple fixes instead of spending hundreds on drainage systems?

My buddy Dave tried this on his driveway last summer and it worked so well he did six more holes around his house. He was genuinely mad at himself for not trying it years ago.
