Just realized people are watering their lawns way too often

I keep seeing posts in here about watering every single day and I think that's a huge mistake. My grass looked terrible until I stopped watering for a whole week back in July and it actually came back greener. The guy at the garden center told me deep watering once a week builds stronger roots and he was right. Has anyone else tried cutting back and seen their lawn do better?

Wait who told you to water every day? That sounds expensive.

Yeah "expensive" is the right word. That stuff adds up fast if you're running the hose every day. My setup uses drip irrigation on a timer so it only runs like 10 minutes max each time. Saves water AND money compared to hand watering with a sprayer.
