My $400 'smart' sprinkler controller just decided my lawn prefers a 3 AM watering schedule.
I'm torn between thinking this tech is a genius water-saver or a complete waste that's just going to get me a noise complaint from the neighbors, so what's the verdict on automated yard systems?

Oh man, this hits home. It feels like everything "smart" lately just adds a new layer of hassle we're supposed to be grateful for. My smart lights have their own ideas about when to turn on, and @wade_lewis is totally right about becoming an unpaid tech support person. We're sold this dream of easy saving, but half the time it's just waiting for the next weird glitch. The old dumb stuff just worked, you know? It's a pattern of fixing things that weren't broken.

Ever get the feeling your smart tech is just trolling you? That 3 AM thing is a classic overcorrection, but the water savings on a good schedule are real. You might just need to tweak the settings before the neighbors form a posse.

You think that's bad? My neighbor's system flooded his patio at 2 PM on a Tuesday. The_jake talks about tweaking settings, but that's the whole problem. You're paying to become a part time IT guy for your grass. These things fail with weather apps, lose connection, and make dumb choices a $20 timer wouldn't. The water savings are a myth if the tech itself can't work right.
