My neighbor in Denver told me his tomato plants only need a deep soak every five days, not a daily sprinkle

I was watering my garden every morning like clockwork. He saw me and said, 'You're just making the roots lazy up top.' I tried his way for a month, giving them a real heavy drink less often. The plants got way stronger and put out more fruit. Has anyone else found that less frequent watering works better for their veggies?

Okay but are we really out here calling plant roots lazy? That's a whole new level of garden guilt. It probably just depends on your dirt and the weather. My buddy in Arizona waters way more than that and his stuff is fine. Sometimes these rules get treated like gospel when it's just a guy who found what works for him.

Guess my plants are just spoiled brats compared to his buddy's.

Yeah, I was totally with you @ellis.ben until I tried the deep watering thing and my plants got way tougher.
