My neighbor told me to plant my tomatoes in late April, not May...

He's been gardening here in Cincinnati for 40 years and insisted our last frost date is earlier than the seed packet said. I planted on April 22nd and now my plants are a foot taller than last year's. When do you all put your warm weather stuff in the ground?

My grandpa always planted his peppers on April 15th in Ohio.

Changed my mind after reading this @cameron_chen. Used to think you had to wait until May to be safe. But April 15 makes sense. My uncle in Indiana did that exact date for his jalapenos. Never lost a plant to frost once.

Planting by a set date shows real dedication to the routine. My family had similar traditions for tomatoes. Did he ever get any surprise frosts that late?

Man, that hits home @cameron_chen. My dad was the same way about his garden, he planted his bell peppers right around tax day every year without fail. It's funny how those family traditions stick with you, even when the weather forecast says something different. I still get a little nervous thinking about that one random cold snap in late April we had back in 2019, but he never seemed to sweat it.
