Neighbor's mosquito trap got me rethinking my whole yard setup

I was chatting with my neighbor last week and he showed me this propane powered mosquito trap he has near his garden, said it cut down his bites by like 80 percent. I've been doing the whole citronella candle thing for two summers now and it barely does anything, plus my kids won't go near the yard after dusk. Has anyone tried one of those traps or found a better way to keep mosquitoes down without spraying chemicals everywhere?

Honestly I get why the trap sounds appealing but I'd be careful before dropping that kind of money. Those propane traps can actually pull mosquitoes from like a whole block away, so you might be making your yard worse if your neighbors aren't running them too. Plus they're loud and you gotta refill the propane all the time, it's not exactly set it and forget it. I've had way more luck just attacking the breeding spots, dumping standing water and keeping the grass short, that did more for me than any gadget. And for the kids, a cheap box fan on the patio does wonders, mosquitoes just can't fly in that breeze, no chemicals needed lol.
