Overheard my neighbor say he waters his lawn at 2 PM in July
He was complaining about his water bill being $180 last month and I didn't have the heart to tell him that's why his grass is brown, anyone else ever bite their tongue around backyard advice?

Has he checked if his water meter is running even when everything's off?
A hidden leak can double a bill and still leave the lawn looking dry.
Sometimes the cheapest fix is a trip to the hardware store for a new washer, not a complete sprinkler overhaul.

Oh man, that's the million dollar question right there. Has he actually looked at the meter? Most people just pay the bill and grumble without ever checking.
But here's what I'm wondering - did he check the meter at like 3 in the morning when nobody's using anything? Because sometimes a tiny leak only shows up when water pressure is higher during off hours.
Did he remember to turn off the irrigation controller completely before checking? I've seen people swear there's no leak only to realize their sprinkler timer was set to run at 2am.
Also, was the main valve fully open when he tested? A partially closed valve can mess with readings too.
