Serious question, did I mess up picking raised beds over in ground plots in Phoenix?
I went back and forth for a solid two weeks on whether to build four 4x8 cedar raised beds or just dig up the dirt in my backyard in Phoenix. I picked the raised beds and dropped about $320 on lumber and soil, mostly because my ground here is straight caliche and I didn't want to fight it. But now my tomatoes are frying in the afternoon sun by 2pm even with shade cloth, and I'm wondering if in ground would have stayed cooler. Anyone out here gardening in the desert that made the same call? Did your beds end up cooking the roots or am I just watering wrong?
